I normally shy away from band's that rely on a one liner pun for a name because it always strikes me as being rather trite. But listening through Lana Del Rabies's Strega Beata set me straight.

Arizona-based noise musician Sam An is the person behind the pun and this lovely, dense, dark wave.

From the liner notes:

"There have been many moments while writing this record that I was grieving through an event that was personal or worldwide, and then another sudden, tragic event would happen. I needed to re-evaluate what I wanted to say because my world and perspective had shifted again. Trying to keep up with tragedy can make one feel helpless, and one way to feel in control is through acts of destruction. My personal impulse towards destruction nearly ended this project."

Building upon tragedy and destruction, Strega Beata (loosely Latin for "blessed witch") writhes and howls with captivating cathartic beauty.

"Right or wrong, it's very pleasant to break something from time to time." Fyodor Dostoevsky
